Carpet, Tile, Hardwoods — Oh My! Which Flooring Style Should You Choose?

The flooring you choose in your home should reflect your own personal style, but with so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to make this decision. There are a number of different types of floors; even once you decide on a flooring type, there are still a number of options from which to choose as well. To help you choose what type of interior flooring to choose, read on for helpful tips.

What Will Be In The Room?

Consider the room you are going to be putting flooring in. What will the room be used for, who will be using the room the most, and what is going to be put in the room? These are just a few of the questions you need to ask yourself when you are considering the flooring for the room. If the room is a kitchen, for instance, you may not want carpeting in this room, but if it is a living room or a bedroom, you may not want tile in these rooms. Consider the room and how it will be used before making a decision.

Do You Want Warmth Or Cool In The Room?

Depending on the flooring you choose will depend on how warm or cool the room will be. If you have carpeting in the room, for instance, the room may feel much warmer. If there is tile in the room, it may be much cooler in that room. Depending on what the room is used for, you may want the room to be cooler or warmer. Consider the warmth factor in the room before making a decision on flooring type.

Do You Want Less Pet Dander?

Carpeting can hold in a lot of pet dander in the fibers of the carpeting. If you have carpeting, you could have a lot of dander in your home. If you have allergies or other types of breathing issues, you may want to consider flooring such as tile or hardwood that doesn't hold as much dander and can be cleaned up easier than carpeting. You'll have less dander and dust in your home with these types of floors, as opposed to carpet.

If you aren't sure what type of flooring to choose for your home, there are a number of things you should consider. With so many options to choose from, it can become stressful. Talk to a flooring expert about what type of flooring is best for your home to help you decide.

About Me

To The Floor: Flooring Selection And Installation

I bought a house that was a fixer-upper. Among the things that it needed was new flooring in the kitchen and the dining room. The wood flooring that was there had been heavily neglected. I had no idea where to start to install new floors. I worked with a flooring contractor who was really patient with me and taught me a lot. The more I learned, the easier it was to make decisions about the flooring I needed and how it should be installed. I created this site to teach others about how to choose and install the right flooring for their homes.
